INTRO Classical

INTRO-classical is a prestigious three-year programme for introducing the cream of young classical musicians in Norway, and selects its artists annually by audition. This audition is described as the toughest music competition in Norway. The INTRO Classical-programme presents its artists on stage, through the media and through various national and international networks. It is run by Rikskonsertene, a state funded non-profit organization witch collaborates with festivals, orchestras and other music institutions in Norway.

Rikskonsertene is responsible for some 10 000 concerts per year, engaging professional musicians and producing concerts in all genres. The activities of the Norwegian Concert Institute are supervised by the Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs.

Rikskonsertene is involved in three support programmes for young musicians: INTRO-classical for young and talented classical performers, INTRO-folk for young performers of folk music, and Jazzintro for up and coming jazz musicians.

Rikskonsertene has a long tradition of supporting young musicians in Norway. Performers who have received help at the beginning of their professional careers include Leif Ove Andsnes, Truls Mørk and Henning Kraggerud.
